Medical Transcription
Editor
Medical Transcription Editor is a comprehensive program that helps students develop the knowledge and skills of a medical transcriptionist in addition to the specialized skill set of a medical transcription editor.
Medical transcriptionists listen to dictated recordings made by physicians and other healthcare professionals and transcribe them into reports or correspondence. Medical transcription editors correct and edit these materials as well as create reports generated by speech recognition software.
Advancements in internet technology and data security have changed the field of medical transcription dramatically. Many medical transcriptionists now telecommute from home-based offices, choosing their own work schedules; others work on-site in medical offices, hospitals and transcription offices.
Bellevue College’s comprehensive online approach gives students more career flexibility and greater marketability because they have solid training in both fields. Students learn keyboard proficiency, medical terminology, language and grammar, and the editing skills required to work with speech recognition technology. They also receive real-world experience by transcribing and editing hundreds of authentic physician dictations.
Students also have access to experienced transcriptionists who can answer questions about the program and the industry in general. The class is designed to be completed in one year or less.
